This is a very helpful book for both Catholics and non-Catholics who have questions about specific Catholic beliefs and practices. It is a comprehensive collection of literally hundreds of responses, as the subtitle says, to “real questions by real people” and truly covers just about “all you want to know about Catholicism.” The responses, often just a few paragraphs and rarely more than a page or so long, are written in straight forward simple terms for people without advanced theological training. The author writes in a gentle pastoral tone without proselytizing, condemning, or ridiculing even when the questioner, more often a Catholic than a non-Catholic, displays a total misunderstanding of a particular Catholic teaching or custom. And in the opinion of this “cradle Catholic” with twenty years of formal Catholic education and another forty of continuing informal study, Father Dietzen’s work is an authentic orthodox presentation of Roman Catholicism.
