I've shopped for winter riding wear multiple times in the past several years without buying, usually because I just couldn't justify the cost. In most cases the jackets alone would be at least double (usually much more for the highly rated ones) what this entire outfit cost. In the fall I bought a Pearl Izumi jacket (not insulated) that was on sale through REI but ended up returning due to fit and they didn't have the item in a larger size. After seeing the reviews for this outfit I decided to just take a chance and am glad I did. I'm 71 years old and have become much less tolerant to the cold weather over the years and don't like having to put on tons of clothing to stay warm on rides.I've ridden three times (about 30 miles per ride) and have been impressed with the warmth of this suit. The starting temperature for my most recent ride was 37 F and overcast. A little chilly starting out (expected) but, within the first three miles I was already comfortable and beginning to perspire slightly. The only other clothing underneath was a short sleeved dry fit shirt and battery operated heated socks that come up nearly to the knee. Just a slight chill on downhills but quickly returned to neutral on the flat and uphills. On previous rides the starting temp was mid 40s and I found by midway through the ride I needed to unzip the jacket down to my chest.I would guess that, with a thin layer of thermal underwear underneath, this outfit would be warm enough to ride with temps in the low 30s, possibly high 20s and if the opportunity presents itself, I'll test that theory out and update my review. As for fit, I'm 5'9" tall, 190 lbs. with a 29" inseam and typically wear a size 34-35 pant waist. I went with the 2XL size for this outfit as I am about in the middle of the size range. That turned out to be a good choice also as it's tight enough without being too tight while not looking too large either. Due to my short inseam the bibs are just a tad long but not to the point that I would need to have them altered or roll the bottoms of the legs up. The 2XL size along with the zippered bottoms on the legs also allow plenty of room for the batteries for my heated socks which are in the top edge of the socks. The three large pockets on the back of the jacket are handy for holding my wallet and keys and the zippered pocket on back is large enough for my cell phone. At this point I could not be happier with my choice and rate this item a solid 5 out of 5 stars. I don't think you'll find a better choice for this price.
